Advanced Specialty Kinesio Taping® 3 and 4:
Kinesio Taping® 1 and 2 are pre-requisites for KT 3 and 4.
Once KT 3 is completed, participants may sit for the KTA Certification Exam.
KT 4 attendees do not need to be KTA certified, but do need to have completed KT3.
KT 1 and 2 Course Description:
KT 1 and 2 is
designed to teach the fundamentals of Kinesio Taping® for the entire body as
outlined by the Kinesio Taping® Association. Kinesio Taping®
techniques are used to re-educate the neuromuscular system, reduce pain, prevent
injury, and promote lymphatic flow and healing. Participants will
learn the core concepts of the Kinesio Taping® method and will practice the
techniques through multiple, intense lab sessions. 16 CEU's are awarded
for completion of KT 1 & 2.
KT 3 and KT 4 Course Description:
KT 3 is designed to teach advanced fundamentals of Kinesio Taping for the entire body as outlined by the KinesioTaping® Association. Participants will learn advanced concepts of the Kinesio Taping® method. KT 1 and 2 are a prerequisite for taking KT3. 8 CEU's are awarded for completion of KT3 and you will be eligible to sit for the KT exam and become a certified Kinesiotaping practitioner (CKTP).
KT 4 Advanced Specialty courses are the newest courses researched and designed by the KTA. Each instructor has had extensive training in each specialty area he/she is teaching. Participants will problem solve and consult during extensive specialty lab sessions. KT 1-3 are prerequisites for KT 4. Attendees do not need to be KTA certified to attend KT 4 Advanced Specialty courses. PTNW brought KT 4 Pediatrics and Lymphedema (presented by De De Wanzek, PT, CKTI) and several KT 4 Orthopedics/Sports Injury (presented by various instructors) to WA in 2014 and 2015. 8 CEU's are awarded for completion of KT 4. KT 1 and 2 course
registration fees include $180 worth of KTA approved items/services per
person: Full-color reference workbooks, 2 month membership access to
reference database, and three rolls of Kinesio Tex® FP Tape to use during class
lab sessions. KT 3 and 4 registration includes full-color reference book and 2 rolls of Kinesio Tex® FP Tape for in-class use per class.
KT 1 and 2 registration fees are approximately $555-565 early reg/$600-$615 regular registration depending on the course location/logistics. Typical KT 3 and 4 course registration is $275 early/$300 regular. Signing up for KT 3 and 4 together is $255 each early registration only.
All licensed healthcare practitioners are eligible to take KT 1 and 2. This includes PT/PTA, OT/COTA, ST, ATC, LMP, DC, ND, and LAc. All others, please contact us to clarify. KT 1 and 2 are required prior to taking KT 3 and the KTA requests at least 3 weeks practice time is taken following KT 1 and 2. Once KT 3 is successfully completed, participants may take KTA's Certified Kinesio Tape® Practitioner examination. KT 3 is required prior to taking KT 4. KT 4 Participants do NOT need to be Certified KT® Practitioners.
All KT courses are approved for PTNW and/or the KTA by NCBTMB (National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork), and AOTA (American Occupational Therapy Association).
BOC (Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers) approval by special request only. We follow the licensing board requirements for each state in which we present.

Masahiro Takakura, ND, LAc, DC, CKTI
Dr. Takakura (known
to us as Dr. Masa) earned a BS (2000) in natural sciences, ND (2002), and MSAOM
(2003) all from Bastyr University. He
practiced in Bellevue, Washington before moving to Illinois in 2004. He attended the Chiropractic program at
National University of Health Science while maintaining a private practice at
The Brannick Clinic of Natural Medicine at Riverside, Illinois. In 2005, he moved to Colorado and practiced
at Fountain Creek Wellness Center in Manitou Springs, Colorado. He returned to
the Pacific Northwest in 2006 where he was a Core faculty member of the
physical medicine department at Bastyr University, clinical supervision at
Myofascial Analysis; Naturopathic Manipulation 1; Hydrotherapy/Physiotherapy
lab; CranioSacral Therapy; and Clinical Rotations. In 2013, he began working on the Seattle
Mariners medical team! Dr. Takakura has
a special interest in physical medicine and pain management. He is an outstanding speaker, we are lucky to
have him present!
Kyle Nelson, MPH, ATC-R, CKTI
graduated from Portland State University in 1996 with a BS in Health and
Fitness Promotion with a minor in Athletic Training. He received a
Master of Public Health from Portland State University in 1998 and was
Certified as a Kinesio Taping® Instructor (CKTI) in 1997. Kyle
attended the Kinesio Taping® Association Symposium in Tokyo, Japan in
1999. Kyle worked at Hope Orthopedics of Oregon in Salem, Oregon as the
Athletic Training Coordinator for outreach programs. In 2013, he accepted
the Head Athletic Trainer position at Concordia University. He is
currently the vice president of the Oregon Athletic Trainers' Society.
Kyle is an excellent instructor, making complicated concepts seem easy!
Calvin Kwan, ND, CKTI
Dr. Calvin Kwan is a licensed Naturopathic Physician who completed his doctorate (2012) and residency (2014) at Bastyr University, is currently an Adjunct Faculty at Bastyr Center for Natural Health and Bastyr University, as well as the clinical director of the Masa Integrative Clinic (2012). He is currently a Certified Kinesio Taping Instructor with 6 years of Kinesio Taping experience and is also a trainer for the Seattle Saracens Rugby Club. Dr. Calvin Kwan firmly believes that prevention is the key to health and longevity. He primarily focuses on the treatment of patients as a whole, with an emphasis in Sports and Physical Medicine, with interests in weight loss, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
When Dr. Kwan is not seeing patients; he enjoys spending time with his Pembroke Wellsh Corgi, Enoki and strengthening his body and mind through exercise and martial arts. Dr. Kwan hopes through his actions and choices, to inspire patients in their pursuit towards health and happiness.
Deanna "DeDe" Wanzek, PT, CKTI
Deanna "DeDe" Wanzek, PT, CKTI is a graduate from the Mayo Foundation School of Physical Therapy. She specialized in pediatrics for the past thirty years utilizing a holistic approach to evaluation and treatment by incorporating myfascial release, craniosacral, muscle energy, lymphedema management, and other complimentary skills. She is certified in the use of Universal Exercise Unit/TheraSuit Method. She is a recognized Certified Instructor by the Kinesio Taping® Association, has recently specialized in Advanced KT 4 instruction methods for Pediatrics and Lymphedema, and was named KTA Instructor of the Year in 2007. She is a Certified Lymphatic Therapist, and APTA board certified Pediatric Clinical Specialist. When not working at the non-profit Special Children Center in Hudson, Wisconsin, she is teaching pediatrics at St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota, or traveling to share her knowledge with PTNW KT 3 and KT4 Advanced Specialty Pediatric and Lymphedema course attendees!

Edwin Ryan, DPT, MS, ATC, RCEP, CSCS, CKTI
Edwin Ryan obtained his entry level clinical doctorate in physical therapy from Florida International University (FIU) with a minor in dietetics and nutrition at the graduate level and is currently pursuing an advanced terminal doctor of science degree (DSc) at Andrews University. He is a very passionate professional and was selected as the 2011Kinesio Taping Practitioner of the year. Dr. Ryan obtained his first degree in Physical Education (Applied Science) with distinction through the University College of Barbados. He then completed a Bachelor of Science degree-with honors- at the University of South Florida in Athletic Training. He also holds a Master's of Science degree in Exercise Physiology with an emphasis in advanced athletic training from FIU and a 2 year graduate teaching certificate also from FIU. Edwin is a member of the KTI research and education committees. He is also a Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist with the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM); a Corrective Exercise Specialist and Performance Enhancement Specialist with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM); a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) a Master Fitness Specialist through the Cooper Institute and a Corrective High Performance Exercise Kinesiologist (CHEK) Practitioner with the CHEK institute. He is currently working towards manual therapy certification through the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy and holds professional memberships with the ACSM, NATA, and the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). Edwin utilizes an integrated manual therapy approach to treatment and specializes in movement screening / assessments and kinetic chain dysfunction.
